I don’t know what is insane about archery lessons, but I agree about the shooting lessons. Like religion, that is something that belongs in a family setting, not in school.
Archery is pointless, but can be fun and no more dangerous than cricket bats or rocks, for that matter.
Now that I think about it, rocks are really the problem. They are totally unregulated, can be obtained by anyone, and have killed millions of people and animals throughout history.
Even worse, a rock can be easily concealed and are so inexpensive they can be casually discarded after being used to commit a variety of crimes ranging from simple vandalism to murder. Yes, we must regulate and register every rock, including the manufactured ones of brick and concrete!
